Thank you Chesapeake Energy!

L to R: Stacey Brodak (Chesapeake), Ashley Anderson, Dr. Martin Olshinsky, Lisa Slie, Lyndsay Wade, Chelsea Steele, and Amy Dobkin (Chesapeake)

The first four awards have been made as the result of a new scholarship funded by Chesapeake Energy Corp. at WVNCC. The Chesapeake Energy Annual Scholarship was funded by an initial donation of $12,000 to the WVNCC Foundation Inc. Initial recipients of the scholarship, worth $1500 per semesster for tuition, books and supplies, for an academic year total of $3,000 are Chelsea Steele and Amanda Rogers of New Martinsville and Lyndsay Wade and Ashley Anderson of Proctor.

According to guidelines for the scholarship, preference is given to students with a grade point average of at least 3.0 from either high school or college, and who are residents of Marshall or Wetzel counties. Students awarded in their first year of study at Northern may qualify in subsequent years if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

“Chesapeake Energy’s funding of scholarships at Northern during these difficult economic times is gratifying for all concerned, and we deeply appreciate the company’s committment” said Emily Fisher, executive director of the WVNCC Foundation.
